Recession profiteering

Just a quick one this.

I noticed the other day that a medium black americano at Costa coffee costs £2. Now, in itself that isn't very interesting I admin. However, when the VAT cut came into effect Costa dropped the price of all drinks across its range by 5p, making a medium black americano £1.95.

I can only assume that the surreptitious return to £2 for said drink is an underhand move to put the price up by 5p (to £2.05) when VAT returns to 17.5% at the end of the year.

Imho, whilst this increase isn't much, it is blatant profiteering from the recession.

I stand wiling to be corrected but, until I am convinced otherwise, I will be boycotting Costa.

  2. Compared to Australian coffee I'd agree. However, Costa are a huge chain over here and this kind of behaviour is deplorable in the current financial situation.
